Frigate Regina Maria Participated in a Naval Group in the Black Sea

The Romanian Navy Forces will participate with Frigate Regina Maria having a Puma helicopter on board in Navy exercises conducted in March in the Black Sea together with Standing NATO Maritime Group-2 (SNMG-2).

The participation of Frigate Regina Maria in operations of SNMG-2 in the Black Sea represents Romania's contribution to NATO package of immediate reaction forces and aims at building trust and increasing interoperability among allies.

Standing NATO Maritime Group-2 (SNMG-2) is one of the four multinational naval groups of the Alliance, a standing integrated maritime force, ready for action at peace or in crisis situations.

SNMG-2 is under the command of Rear Admiral Brad Williamson (United States Navy). US Navy cruiser USS Vicksburg (CG 69) leads the exercise with other ships taking part in the exercise: Canadian frigate HMCS Fredericton (FFH 337), Turkish frigate TCG Turgutreis (F 241), Italian frigate ITS Aliseo (F 574), Romanian frigate Regina Maria (F 222) and German tanker FGS Spessart (A 1442).

Mission SNMG-2 in the Black Sea was planned in 2014 as part of the Plan with the main activities of the Romanian Navy, aiming at maintaining the training of Romanian military seamen and ensuring trust among allied nations in the region.
