The Minister of National Defence Met with Representatives of the Georgian Parliament

The Minister of National Defence, Mircea Dusa, had official talks with the Chairman of the Defence and Security Committee of the Parliament, Mr. Irakli Sesiashvili, on Monday, April 6.

Minister Dusa stated that, in its capacity as Contact Point Embassy/CPE in Georgia, Romania is aware of Georgia's Euro Atlantic integration efforts and continues to endorse them. The Romanian official also spoke highly of Georgia's solid operational involvement in the allied efforts to strengthen regional and international security and stability.

As to the implementation of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package (SNGP), Minister Dusa talked of Romania's support in organizing a joint NATO-Georgia exercise with the participation of other partners, in the framework of SNGP.
'We consider that including Georgia in this platform signifies the recognition of its valued contribution to the security and stability of the Euro Atlantic space, as well as an opportunity to make the most of the operational experience of the Georgian military forces, gained during their participation in allied missions and operations', the Romanian defence minister said.

In talking about the cooperation between Georgia and the EU, Mircea Dusa pointed out the need to develop the security and defence dimension of the eastern Partnership.

'We appreciate, in this context, that solutions should be identified to facilitate the participation of your country, alongside Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, in EU missions and operations', Minister Dusa stated.

Mircea Dusa said further that the Eastern Partnership Summit of May 2015 will be an opportunity to evaluate the progress of the relations between the EU and these partners as well as an important step in the development and consolidation of the Partnership.
