The Minister of National Defence, Mircea Dusa, met with the German Chief of Staff, General Volker Wieker, at the defence ministry on Thursday, April 16. The German military leader came in Romania at the invitation of the Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Nicolae Ciuca.

Minister Dusa and General Wieker discussed the developments in the security situation in the extended Black Sea region and the implementation of the assurance measures in bilateral but also allied context.

As to the two NATO command structures that will operate on Romanian territory, the defence minister said: We created the legal framework necessary to establish the integration of the NATO Force Integration Units (NFIU) and the Multinational Division-Southeast Command (MND-SE) in Bucharest, in the spaces of some existing commands, which meet the conditions required by NATO.

The agenda included talks on the development of NATO capabilities and preparations for the Foreign Affairs Council meeting of the European Union in defence ministers format, scheduled in May, and the meeting of the European Council on security and defence, to take place in June.

'The process of implementing the Framework Nations Concept, launched by your country, registers significant progress. The great number of participants from among the allies proves the viability of this initiative,' Minister Dusa said.
Lieutenant General Nicolae Ciuca presented his German counterpart the priorities of the Romanian Armed Forces for the coming period, the commitment of the Romanian troops to 'Resolute Support' mission in Afghanistan, the stage of implementing the tasks resulting from the Action Plan of the Alliance in terms of increasing the operational capability according to the schedule.
The two military leaders also discussed intensifying bilateral collaboration as well as identifying new fields of cooperation.
