The Minister of National Defence, Mircea Dusa, attended, on Monday, June 29, the opening of the annual convocation of the Romanian defence attaches, taking place at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defence over June 29 to July 3.

During the convocation conducted under the motto the Institution of the Defence Attachees-Adaptation and Efficiency, they discussed topics concerning the developments of the security environment in the region and the importance to resize and modernize the role and missions of the the Institution of the Defence Attachees.

The defence minister emphasized the role of the defence attaches in strengthening Romania's bilateral military relations with the allied and partner countries in the present security context, the challenges at the regional security on the Eastern and Southern flanks of the Alliance, generated by the crisis in Ukraine and the instability arch in the Middle East and North Africa.

Minister Dusa said that NATO countries were united in front of these threats and the Alliance adapted rapidly and efficiently to the new realities. The implementation of the Readiness Action Plan (RAP), adopted in 2014, at the Wales Summit, goes according to the plan whereas Romania meets its commitments, which was noted during the late ministerial at NATO HQ.

Romania registers important progress on the way to establishing the two allied command and cotrol structures in Bucharest NATO / NFIU and MND / SE, appreciating the willingness of the member states to man and render them operational and for the ongoing assurance measures in 2015 and further, for as long as necessary Minister Dusa said. He pointed out the importance of the role played by the defence attachees for the permanent and timely military dialogue with Romania's allies and partners.

The defence minister mentioned the importance to promote bilateral military relations with EU countries, mainly in terms of military operations and missions under EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), and developing joint military capabilities by cooperating with NATO and EU.

The activity was also attended by the chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Nicolae Ciuca and the General Director of the Defence Intelligence General Directorate, Lieutenant General Marian Hapau.
