Dragonii Transilvani deploy to Afghanistan

On Wednesday, 30 July, at 09.00 hrs, defence minister Mircea Dusa will participate in departure ceremony to Afghanistan of the Dej 811 Infantry Battalion soldiers that will take place in Bobalna Square, Dej.

Dragonii Transilvani will execute force protection missions, for a six-month period at the Air Base from Kandahar, at the same time ensuring freedom of movement on the access roads and counseling the Afghan Security Forces.

Throughout 2002-2015, the soldiers from Dej participated in various missions in the theaters of operations from Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan but also in numerous national and international exercises.

The Combat Flag of the unit was decorated twice with the Pentru Merit National Order in the rank of Knight, with war marks in 2006 and in the rank of Officer with war marks in 2011 and received the Land Forces Staff Emblem of Honor (in 2007), the General Staff Emblem of Honor (in 2014) and the Romanian Armed Force Emblem of Honor with the war mark (in 2014).

The journalists' presence will be allowed throughout the ceremony.
