The Veterans' Relay at the Start Line for a New Running Course

Military men, voluntary members of the group Invictus Romania, will take the start on the fourth running course from the Prefect's Office of Timis County, at 09.00 hrs., on Friday, September 18. The course is about 90 kilometers long and includes localities Timisoara, Paulis and Arad.

The relay carried by the military men, members of the Invictus Romania team, will passby the heroes' monuments on their route and will be welcomed by members of the 18th Banat Infantry Brigade, representatives of the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the associations that support the activity.

Commemoration ceremonies will be organized in the respective localities, in memory ofthe heroes who fought for the freedom of the national territory in WW2.

Journalists who want to watch the event are expected at the Prefect's Office of Timis County, at 08.50, on Friday, September 18, at the Heroes' Monument in Paulis, at 09.50, on Saturday, September 19 and in Avram Iancu square, in Arad, at 12.15, on Monday, September 21.

This year, the relay is a tricolor flag and will be carried by the members of Invictus Romania on an over 1,000 kilometers distance, along four routes that roughly re-enact the lines along which the Romanian military fought to free the national territory in 1944.

In each of the localities where battles were fought, the relay bearers will hand over anational flag to WW 2 veterans. The flags will be finally taken over by the local authorities and will be hoisted on an important edifice of the community.

The relay bearers will reach Carei, namely the Monument Ensemble Glorie OstasuluiRoman, on October 25.

This year's event is meant to mark the Year of War Veterans and the celebration of theDay of the Romanian Armed Forces of October 25. The institutions that assist inorganizing it are the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Internal Affairstogether with the National Association of War Veterans, the National Association ofReserve and Retired Military Personnel, the Regina Maria National Association ofHeroes' Cult and Camarazii Charity Organization of the Romanian Armed Forces.
