Bilateral Meeting with the Defence Minister of Georgia

The Minister of National Defence, Mircea Dusa, met with his Georgian counterpart, Ms. Tinatin Khidasheli, on the side of NAC meeting, on Thursday, October 8.

I wish to reiterate Romania's interest in maintaining an area of stability in its neighboring region. That is why we would continue to endorse Georgia's efforts in the transformation processes, in agreement with the reforms requested by the European and Euro-Atlantic Community, all the more so as our country assumed and will continue to do so the role of Contact Point Embassy/CPE in two of the three countries in Sounthern Caucasus, Minister Mircea Dusa declared.

The Romanian official pointed out our country's determination to endorse Georgian endeavours to continue implementing defence-related reforms, especially by offering assistance in training and joint participation in regional military exercises.

Also, Minister Mircea Dusa saluted Georgia joining the South-Eastern Defence Ministerial, SEDM, process as a full-pledged member and encouraged the participation of this country in the projectes initiated within this initiative, such as the Multinational Peace Force South-East Europe (MPFSEE) and its operational component, SEEBRIG.

The Romanian dignitary emphasized that Romania, as a NATO country located at the eastern border of the Alliance, gives a special attention, in the context created by the Russian-Ukrainian crisis that altered dramatically the European security environment, to the consolidation of its own security as well as of the allies, on the entire Eastern flank.
At the end of the meeting, the two ministers appreciated that the rhythm of implementing the substantial NATO-Georgia Package, by meeting the time lines assumed by the allies, will be maintained along the entire process.
