Meeting of the Steering Committee of NATO Center of Excellence for Military Medicine

The 14th Steering Committee Meeting of NATO Center of Excellence for Military Medicine (MILMED COE) took place, for the first time, at the Palace of the National Military Circle in Bucharest, over November 23 to 25.

During the event, the chief of the Medical Directorate of the Ministry of National Defence, Col. dr. Constantin Stefani, met with the director of the NATO Centre of Excellence for Military Medicine, Brigadier General (MD) Dr. Stefan Kowitz to discuss the perspectives of cooperation in the field.

During the Meeting of the Steering Committee chaired by Major General Istvan Szabo, commander of the Hungarian Defence Forces Medical Centre topics were tackled related with funding and the main activities to take place in 2016.

The meeting in Bucharest was attended, beside the nine MILMED COE Sponsoring Nations (Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania and Great Britain), by the United States of America (in joining process) as well as the new ACT medical adviser, COL Deborah Porter.

The NATO Centre of Excellence for Military Medicine (MILMED COE) is an international military organisation that has the task to facilitate interoperability between the military medical services in NATO, in terms of military medical training, lessons learned and health care during military operations. The institution was accredited by NATO in 2009 and is located in Budapest, Hungary.

The Steering Committee, the main decision-making body of MILMED COE, consists of representatives of each member-nation and meets twice a year, in spring and in autumn.
