Defence Minister Meets with the German Ambassador to Bucharest

The Minister of National Defence, Mihnea Motoc, received H.E. Werner Hans Lauk, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Romania, at the defence ministry, on Friday, December 4.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed the level of cooperation between the two countries both at bilateral level and within the international organizations they are part of.

The two officials were willing to further military bilateral cooperation, by identifying and implementing specific projects.

Minister Motoc said he appreciated Germany's solidarity with Romania in the process of implementing NATO's assurance measures, and the good cooperation of the two countries in promoting the adaptation of NATO's defence and deterrence posture.

The Minister also saluted the contribution of the German military to manning several positions in the two NATO command and control structures in Romania — the Multinational Division South-East headquarters in Bucharest and the NATO Force Integration Unit.

The minister of national defence also highlighted that participating in the development of EU security and defence continues to be one of the priorities of Romania's defence policy. In this context, the minister pointed out that Romania supports actively the efforts to promote EU as a credible player on the international security scene.
