State Secretary for Armaments at the Military Equipment and Technologies Research Agency (METRA)

The State Secretary for Armaments, Gabriel-Beniamin Les, participated in the report of Military Equipment and Technologies Research Agency (METRA) on its activity and scientific results, held on Monday, December 7.

The activity that took place at the location of the Agency was attended by the chief of General Staff, General Nicolae Ciuca, the chiefs of resources of the military services, representatives of the Presidential Administration, the Romanian Parliament and the institutions of the national defence system.

The specialists of the agency presented technological demonstration devices, prototypes and the last solutions and results of research, that make the most of the military scientific potential. The ground-to-air, air-to-air and surface-to-air targeting system ULTRA 20 (multirole) was presented for the first time.

State Secretary Gabriel-Beniamin Les pointed out that the European Defence Agency initiated a competition in the field this year. From the 200 research projects proposed from within the EU, 30 were selected, that have a double use, military and civilian. Specialists of the Military Equipment and Technologies Research Agency were involved in three of them. I am convinced that METRA will become a more and more important player in offering technological solutions and the necessary know-how to develop the appropriate military capabilities for the Ministry of National Defence.

Established in 1968, the Military Equipment and Technologies Research Agency and its five research centers are at present the specialized structure of the Ministry of National Defence that conducts research and development in military technique and technologies.
Beside its main reasearch, development and innovation activity, attested by National Authority for Scientific Research and Innovation, METRA conducts activities that are part of the integrated management system of the defence procurement programs.
