While participating in the EU Defence Ministers Reunion in Amsterdam, the Romanian defence minister, Mihnea Motoc, met with the Italian defence minister, Roberta Pinotti.

The agenda included talks on bilateral defence cooperation, the priorities of the cooperation within the Common Security and Defence Policy and within NATO.

The meeting focused on establishing the legal frame of the bilateral defence cooperation, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of National Defence of Romania and the Ministry of Defence of Italy.

The memorandum takes into account the new realities of bilateral cooperation and the fact that Romania is a NATO and EU member state, opening the ways of cooperation in fields such as: defence management and planning, training military and civilian personnel, arms control and disarmament, cyber defence in the military field, economic and military, technical and scientific activities.
