Bilateral Meeting of the Defence Minister with the Turkish Minister of Defence, Ismet Yilmaz

While participating in NATO Defence Ministers Meeting, the Romanian Defence Minister, Mihnea Motoc, had a bilateral meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Defence Minister Ismet Yilmaz.

The talks focusing on bilateral cooperation and regional security confirmed the interest of the two officials to further Romanian-Turkish cooperation, in agreement with the general development of the bilateral relations, as provided by the Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

The ministers discussed the possibilities to increase cooperation in the field of troops training and modernization of military capabilities. They also discussed the security situation of the Black Sea region, when the exchange of opinions highlighted the common interest for developing bilateral cooperation with a view to strengthening national defence, increasing stability and security in this area that is important for regional and Euro-Atlantic security.

The Romanian defence minister appreciated the contribution of Turkey to manning NATO structures in Romania, NFIU and the Multinational Division South-East. The Romanian minister also accepted the invitation made by minister Yilmaz to make a working visit in Turkey, to continue the bilateral dialogue.
