Meeting of the Defence Minister with Antoni Macierewicz, the Polish Minister of Defence

While participating in NATO Defence Ministers Meeting, the Romanian Defence Minister, Mihnea Motoc, had a meeting with his Polish counterpart, Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz. The talks focused on bilateral defence cooperation as provided by the Strategic Partnership between the two countries, the preparation of the future Warsaw Summit and regional security.

The two ministers discussed intensifying the dialogue and bilateral cooperation in the field of training, exercises and Air Police missions. The Romanian minister thanked the Polish partners for their future contribution to NATO's Air Police missions in the South of the Eastern flank, as announced the day before.

A special attention was paid to the preparations of NATO Summit in Warsaw, in the summer of this year. The officials reiterated the need of the Alliance to consolidate and adapt to the new security context. They also talked of the shared interest in strengthening NATO's deterrence and defence posture, including the Eastern flank. They emphasized the importance of announcing at the Summit in Warsaw that the missile defence system is operational. The Romanian defence minister confirmed that the operationalization of the facility at Deveselu and its transfer to NATO are going according to the schedule.

The Romanian defence minister accepted the invitation to make a working visit in Poland made by his Polish counterpart and, in turn, made an invitation to the Polish defence minister to visit Romania.
