Meeting of the Romanian Minister of National Defence with the Defence Minister of Georgia

The Romanian and Georgian ministers of defence, Mihnea Motoc and Tinatin Khidasheli, had official talks at the defence ministry, on Thursday, April 7.

The meeting was an excellent opportunity to enhance bilateral defence cooperation and the strategic dialogue on topics of mutual interest, related to the developments of the security environment and cooperation initiatives within the Alliance and the EU.

The talks highlight the progress made in the framework of NATO-Georgia partnership. As to the NATO Summit in Warsaw, Minister Motoc emphasized that it is important that the Alliance continue to support Georgia by identifying new practical ways of intensifying cooperation, in agreement with the policy of the open doors.

Minister Motoc stressed that Georgia is an important partner of Romania in the Black Sea region and one of the most important ones for NATO and EU. He also pointed out the significant contribution of this country to international security and stability.

During his visit in Romania, at the invitation of Minister Motoc, the Georgian Defence Minister's agenda will include meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lazar Comanescu and General Ion Oprisor, presidential consellor on national security.
