The Minister of National Defence, Mihnea Motoc, made a visit to HUMINT, NATO Center of Excellence in Oradea, on Thursday, April 14, accompanied by Brigadier General Marian Sima, deputy chief of the Military Intelligence Directorate.

After a tour of the center, Mihnea Motoc discussed with its representatives of the present and future challenges to military intelligence.

Minister Motoc said that the defence ministry is a major contributor to the defence intelligence of NATO and EU, generating relevant analyses on the security situation of Ukraine.

The bigger the uncertainties of the international environment, while our capacity of prediction seems to decrease with time, the more flexible we should be to better adapt to any given situation. I firmly believe that the smart use of intelligence could bring strategic advantages for defence far greater than a tank division. That is why, it is imperative that we think deeply and courageously to our long-term priorities and programs, Mihnea Motoc declared.

HUMINT Center of Excellence, inaugurated in 2010, is exceptionally equipped, with modern classrooms, conference halls, housing facilities, firing ranges and training facilities adapted to different activities.

NATO mission in the field of HUMINT is to establish a unique point of reference for an increased field intervention capacity of the Alliance intelligence experts, by means of training and developing standard policies and procedures in support of the Alliance and predicting the developments of the capabilities to get intelligence from human sources.

Due to its working schedule and the activities it conducts, the Center is the main transformation agent of the Alliance in terms of specific expertise, by developing, promoting and implementing new policies, concepts and strategies, in order to improve operational capabilities.
