Meeting of the Romanian Minister of Defence with His Polish Counterpart

On Tuesday, April 19, during the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in defence ministers format held in Luxembourg, minister Mihnea Motoc had a meeting with his Polish counterpart, Antoni Marcierewicz.

They talked of intensifying bilateral defence cooperation, of the recent developments of the regional security context and preparing the defence dimension of NATO Summit in Warsaw.

Based on the Romanian-Polish Strategic Plan, the two ministers discussed ways of intensifying bilateral cooperation and implementing the projects of the Action Plan in order to meet the objectives of the Common Declaration on defence.

Minister Motoc talked of the initiatives that were taken into account for the consolidation of NATO presence at home and in the Black Sea region. The officials talked of the need to coordinate the positions of the two nations, as NATO members, with a view to ensure an efficient implementation of the decisions to consolidate a forward allied position along the Eastern NATO flank.

They also agreed that the bilateral dialogue should continue at the level of the defence policy directors and during the visit of the Polish defence minister to Romania before the Warsaw Summit.
