Meeting of Minister Motoc with His British Counterpart

On Tuesday, April 19, during the reunion of the Foreign Affairs Council held in Luxembourg, minister Mihnea Motoc had also had a meeting with the British Secretary of State for Defence, Michael Fallon.

They discussed intensifying bilateral defence cooperation, the recent developments of the regional security context, the cooperation within NATO and EU and points to be included on the agenda of NATO Summit in Warsaw.

The two ministers talked of the satisfactory development of the bilateral relations at political and military level and discussed ways of intensifying bilateral cooperation in an allied context, including exercises and Land, Air and Navy training activities hosted by our country.

Related to NATO Summit in Warsaw, the two agreed on the need to stress the unity, cohesion and solidarity of the Alliance and the interest for the progress of the long-term adaptation process of the Alliance. In this respect, it was stressed how important a forward allied presence is along the Eastern flank by means of a balanced and realistic approach in agreement with the principles of unity and cohesion of the Alliance.

Minister Motoc talked of the main Romanian initiatives meant to consolidate a forward presence of the allied forces on the national territory and in the Black Sea region, requesting British support in implementing these initiatives. The two ministers agreed on continuing the dialogue at expert level during the visit of the Romanian defence minister in Great Britain in May.
