General Nicolae Ciuca, the Chief of General Staff, met with General Sir Nicholas Houghton, the Chief of the Defence Staff of the British Armed Forces, at the defence ministry, on April 19.

During the meeting, General Ciuca informed his British counterpart on the priorities of the Romanian Armed Forces in the near future, the evolution of the security situation in the Black Sea region and the participation of the Romanian troops in theaters of operations. The two officials discussed the future NATO Summit in Warsaw and the two NATO commands established in Romania, the Multinational Division South-East and NATO Force Integration Unit (NFIU).

The military leaders discussed possible ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation, also by identifying new fields of cooperation.

After speaking with experts in the General Staff, the two officials visited the 2nd Rovine Infantry Brigade, that conducts training sessions during Scorpions Fury multinational exercise, at Getica Combat Training Center of the Land Forces in Cincu.
General Ciuca thanked his counterpart for his visit to Romania, for the contribution to strengthening bilateral relations, especially for the contribution of the British Armed Forces to instructing military personnel through the British Military Advisory Training Teams - BMATT; British troops and staff personnel participated in training exercises conducted in Romania and manning MND- SE and NFIU established here. British troops also participated in training exercises conducted in the firing ranges in Smardan and Galati, in units of the Mountain Troops or conducted by the Navy or the Air Force. Next month, about 150 British troops will participate in the multinational exercise Sarmis 16/Carphatian Express 16, side by side other 1000 Romanian, US and Moldovan troops.

During the visit at the defence ministry, General Sir Nicholas Houghton met with the State Secretary for Defence Poliy and Planning, Stefan Alexandru Tinca.
