The Bulgarian Chief of Staff Makes an Official Visit to Romania

The Minister of National Defence, Mihnea Motoc, received Lieutenant General Constantin Popov, the Chief of Staff of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, Thursday, April 21.

The talks between the two officials focused on identifying concrete ways of consolidating regional defence cooperation for an efficient management of the risks and threats the two allied states in the Black Sea region are facing.

The two officials reiterated the importance of coordinating their position in topics of mutual interest on the agenda of NATO Summit in Warsaw of July this year.

The defence minister appreciated the good military cooperation of the two countries both at bilateral level and within NATO, stressing the importance of developing a credible deterrance of the allied posture and the need to approach all threats of the present security environment in a balanced manner.

During the meeting with the Chief of the General Staff, General Nicolae Ciuca, the two officials discussed at length the stage of cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries, the common international military projects and the security issues in the Black Sea region and South-Eastern Europe.

They also discussed each country's position in topics of interest on NATO agenda, participation in common training exercises and the readiness of the NFIUs in Bulgaria and Romania.
