Activities dedicated to the celebration of the Day of War Veterans (April 29) and Victory Day (May 9)

The National Association of the War Veterans and the Ministry of National Defence, organize on Sunday, May 8th, at 11.00, the first edition of the war veterans' marathon VeteRUN - Cupa Steaua.

The competition is a popular event though which citizens and the soldiers of the Romanian military can show their high esteem for the war veterans, injured, and disabled personnel and the successors of those deceased following their participation in World War II. Steaua Military Sports Club and H Beer House are also organizers of the event.

The marathon course map looks as follows: Presei Libere Square, Kiseleff Street, The Arch of Triumph, Victoriei Square, Aviatorilor Avenue, Charles de Gaulle Square, Maresal Constantin Prezan Avenue, The Arch of Triumph, Kiseleff Street, Presei Libere Square.

Children activating at Steaua Military Sports Club, soldiers who participated in missions in the theatres of operations from Afghanistan, Iraq and the Western Balkans, children, teenagers and civilian adults who would like to pay homage to the war veterans will participate in this marathon.

One can get details on the marathon regulation, the enrolment methodology, the route, the prizes awarded and the complete program of the event by accessing the site http://veterun.armataromaniei.ro. Those interested in participating in the marathon can also enrol on May 8th, between 08.00 and 10.00 a.m., in the start area, at the entrance in Herastrau Park, near Pavilion H. A military equipment display will also be organized at this entrance.

Also, in all large garrisons of the country, George Enescu Philarmonic, Romanian National Opera Houses from Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Timisoara and MoND Representative Music Orchestra will dedicate their performances and concerts to the war veterans, as follows:

On May 5th, starting from 19.005 - The symphonic orchestra of 'George Enescu' Philharmonic directed by Christian Badea, having Ekaterina Mecetina as soloist, will hold the concert, with the following music agenda: Piotr Ilici Ceaikovski - Concert no. 1 for piano and orchestra, and Serghei Prokofiev - Symphony no. 5.

On May 6th The Romanian National Opera House from Cluj-Napoca will dedicate to war veterans Swan Lake, by Piotr Ilici Ceaikovski

On May 7th between 11.00 and 12.30 The Ministry of National Defence Representative Music Orchestra will offer a performance in Coltea Park.

On May 8th, at 18.30 - Iasi Opera House will deliver Don Quijote, by Ludwig Minkus.

On May 25th, starting from 19.00.- The Romanian National Opera House from Timisoara will hold its performance for veterans- Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto.

Veterans of World War II as well as veterans who participated in missions from the theaters of operations from Afghanistan, Iraq and the Western Balkans will be invited to attend these concerts.

The war veterans' marathon is organized with the support of Black Sea Defense & Aerospace 2016, Xflight, WorldClass, TNT Brothers, Murfatlar, Aqua Queen and Ciuc Radler, in media partnership with the Romanian National Television, Running Mag and Adrenallina.
