Thursday, July 29, 04 the school ship “Mircea” cast the anchor in the Canadian Harbor Halifax after the participation in heavy meteo conditions to New London-Halifax race planned for about 500 maritime miles.
In cooperation with the Embassy of Romania Friday night July 30, 04 on board of the ship a reception was organized for the local civil and military officials and for the Romanian community from Canada. The guests appreciated very much the Romanian specific food that was served.
During the stop the ship was open to the Halifax public. Saturday, July 31, 04 in two hours the ship was visited by more then 600 people. The town authorities organized visits to the historical and tourist objectives for the crew, students and pupils of the ship.
After the routine check of the ship made by the military scuba divers from the Halifax base and the check of the board installation, supply with food and fuel, the Navy ship “Mircea” will departure on August 3, 2004 for Aichat Harbor for a new part of the Tall Ships Challenge 2004.
“Mircea” left Romania April 19, 04 for a training march, for taking part to the international nautic contest with 71 students from the Navy Academy “Mircea cel Batran” and 31 pupils from the Military Navy Foremen “Amiral Ion Murgescu”. During the15,000 maritime miles march that will end September 26, 04 “Mircea “ will stop in 13 harbors from seven countries.
