Romanian soldiers lost their lives in Afghanistan

Two Romanian soldiers lost their lives and a third one was injured following an incident which took place on Saturday, May 7th, at 10.45 am, nearby Kandahar, while training the Afghan police members.

Following the incident, the three injured special operation forces soldiers were given first aid on the spot and were immediately taken to the closest hospital. Unfortunately, Sergeant First Class Dumitrescu Iulian and Sergeant Vizireanu Adrian did not survive. The health status of the third injured soldier is stable and he is to be transferred to a hospital from Germany.

The families of the victims were informed and the incident is investigated by a military board.

The MoND leadership sent sincere condolences to the mourning families of the deceased military personnel and is attentively monitoring the health status of the injured soldier.

We are deeply saddened to hear about the death of the soldiers who fell on duty today while executing a mission in Afghanistan. On my behalf and on behalf of all Romanian military personnel, I am sending my deepest condolences to the families, friends and comrades of arms of the deceased soldiers. May God rest these brave and good Romanian soldiers in peace!, defence minister Mihnea Motoc said.
