Monuments in Memory of Hero Remus Branzan Inaugurated in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The State Secretary for Parliament Liaison, Public Information and Personnel Welfare, Otilia Sava, made an official visit in Bosnia and Herzegovina, over May 30 and 31.

Two commemorative headstones were unveiled in memory of 2nd Lieutenant (posthumous) Remus Branzan one in the Memorial Park in Camp Butmir and a second one in Goradze corridor, near Trnovo, the place where the Romanian soldier fell on duty on September 17, 1996.

The ceremonies were attended by the hero's wife and son, representatives of the 10th Engineer Brigade Remus Branzan was part of, officials from the Defence Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of NATO and EU missions there.

The state secretary met with soldiers of the Romanian contingent there and visited the Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC) at Camp Butmir, where she met with Major General Friedrich Schrotter, commander EUFOR in Bosnia and Herzegovina and members of NATO Headquarters Sarajevo (NHQSa).

The program of the Romanian delegation included meetings at the Ministry of Defence with Defence Minister, Marina Pendeš, and Deputy Minister of Defence, Boris Jeriniae; while at the Parliament Assembly, the Romanian state secretary met with the President of the Parliament Commission for Defence and Security, Sifet Podžiae and Parliamentary Military Commissioner Boško Šiljegoviae.

State Secretary Otilia Sava talked with the BIH representatives on topics such as medical centers for soldiers wounded in TOs, ways of improving the legislative framework related to the support of wounded soldiers, war invalids and families of the those who fell in theaters of operations or during missions in the country and ways of keeping disabled soldiers in activity.

The two commemorative headstones in memory of 2nd Lieutenant (posthumous) Remus Branzan were realized in 2015, by the National office for Heroes Memory of the Ministry of National Defence.
