Congress of the Balkan Medical Military Committee in Bucharest

The 21st Congress of the Balkan Medical Military Committee (BMMC) took place at the Palace of the National Military Club, in Bucharest, over May 31 to June 3.

The main topic of the event, BALKAN MILITARY MEDICINE FUTURE brought together medical military specialists from Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Serbia and Turkey.

This is the only scientific activity that involves the entire medical personnel of the Romanian Ministry of Defence, while the scientific dialogue it promotes through BMMC contributes to enhancing the visibility of the military medical activity in the Balkan region.

In this respect, the conditions are met to fulfil the bilateral medical and military cooperation goals in operational medicine and interoperability in geostrategic context and within Euro-Atlantic partnerships.

At the end of the Congress, during the 39th meeting of the presidents and secretaries of the national offices of member countries, Serbia would assume the presidency of the 22nd edition of the congress.

The basis of this inter-regional cooperation was set in 1995, when Romania, Greece and Turkey felt the need to set channels of dialogue in the military medical field and to establish flexible multidisciplinary teams needed to ensure the expertise in emergency/crisis situations and the management of the outcome in such cases.
