Captain Cristian Dan, PR officer of “Soimii Carpatilor”(Carpathian Falcons) the 812th Infantry Battalion transmitted from Iraq:
Brigade General Dr. Visarion Neagoe deputy commander of the 2nd Joint Operational Command met Major General Bill Rollo, commander of MDSE Sunday, August 1, 04 in Mittica camp near Nasiriya.
Lieutenant Colonel Nicolae Ciuca and Lieutenant Colonel Dorin Blaiu, commanders of the 26th and the 812th Infantry Battalions also took part to the meeting focused on the future missions the Romanians will have during their mission in the Iraqi theater of operations, the sovereign country since June 2004.
Speaking about the future missions the Romanians will have to perform the British General stated: “ we want to increase the trust of the National Guard and the Police in their own forces and capabilities by the actions we are going to develop”.
“Problems and the difficulties the local population is dwelling with are multiple. Thus the Romanians must identify the places in their area of responsibility that will first benefit of CIMIC projects” stated Major General Rollo.
The MDSE commander also spoke about another important mission of the Coalition, that of monitoring and support the Iraqi authorities in order to ensure the security of elections in January 2005.
At the end of the meeting the British General speaking about the last six weeks activity of the “Red Scorpions” mentioned “they return home proud and fully convinced they fulfilled their mission”.
Monday, August 2, 04 Lieutenant Colonel Nicolae Ciuca, commander of the 26th Infantry Battalion and the last detachment of the Romanians that were for six months in mission in Iraq arrived in Craiova. According to the proceedings all the military personnel will benefit of a period of time for recuperation.
