The Minister of National Defence, Mihnea Motoc, received Carmelo Abela, Minister for Home Affairs and National Security of the Republic of Malta, at the defence ministry, on Thursday, June 30.

They discussed the priorities of the Maltese Presidency of the EU Council at the beginning of 2017. The Romanian defence minister said he was in favour of a balanced approach to the risks and threats to European security, both in the Black Sea region and the Mediterranean Sea. He also stressed their strategic importance for European security.

The Maltese official talked in detail of the migration issue. Related to this topic, the two officials appreciated the recent communication of the European Commission on the New Consolidated Partnership and Cooperation Framework with third parties on the topic of migration, as promoted for the management of the migration phenomenon, in a durable and fair manner.
