29 July The Day of the National Anthem

The Day of the National Anthem will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 29, in all garrisons throughout the country.

The celebration ceremony in Bucharest will take place in Tricolorului Square at 09.00 hrs, in the proximity of the National Military Club and will consist in a religious mass, a music show offered by the Music Band of the Ministry of National Defence, the Music Band of the 30th 'Mihai Viteazul' Guard Regiment and the Music Band of the Romanian Gendarmerie. The event will be attended by the state secretaries of the defence ministry and the chief of General Staff.

The repertoire includes the various national anthemns over the years - 'Traiasca regele', 'Zdrobite catuse', 'Te slavim, Romanie!', 'Pe-al nostru steag e scris Unire', 'Trei culori', and the show will end with the current national anthem, 'Desteapta-te romane!' [Awakenthee, Romanian!], performed by soprano Carla Musat, from the Artisc Ensemble of the Armed Forces.

The Day of the National Anthem was established by Law no. 99/1998 and is celebrated everyyear on July 29.

'Desteapta-te romane!' is a composition by Anton Pann, on the lyrics of poet Andrei Muresanu, whose 200th birth anniversary will be in November.
