The Director of National Intelligence of the USA had an official meeting with the Romanian Defence Minister

On Friday, August 12th, the Minister of National Defence, Mihnea Motoc, met with James R. Clapper Jr., Director of National Intelligence of the USA, who was on official visit in Romania.

The two officials analyzed the evolution of the regional security environment by focusing on the instability areas adjacent to the North-Atlantic space.

In this context, the Romanian defence minister saluted the decisions adopted during the NATO Summit in Warsaw by emphasizing the importance given by Romania to the US support in implementing the initiatives with a view of consolidating the Eastern flank of the Alliance.

Romania militated and acted in order to enhance cooperation at the Black Sea and in the Balkans by allocating significant resources to accomplish these objectives, the Romanian official explained.

Minister Motoc highlighted the excellent level of bilateral military and security cooperation under the auspices of the Romanian-US Strategic Partnership for the 21st century which has an essential role in consolidating our country's deterrence and defence posture in an extremely complex security environment.

The strategic implications of this partnership are reflected in the cooperation projects which have already been implemented, such as: Romania's participation in NATO Ballistic Missile Defense System in Europe (the Military Base from Deveselu), the Multi-modal Operations Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, as well as the upgraded training facilities of the Romanian Armed Forces, where the US and partner nations can get trained.
