Ceremonies for the Solemn utterance of the names of the heroes who fell during World War 1

In celebration of 100 years since WW 1, the Ministry of National Defence organizes onFriday, August 26, for the first time, ceremonies for the Solemn utterance of the names of theheroes who fell during World War 1.

From 10.00 hrs., in 100 cemeteries or memorials across the country (details at: http://english.mapn.ro/event/871_Military-Ceremonies-in-Commemoration-of-World-War-1-Heroes) there will be simultaneous prayers for the dead, whilemilitary, political, social and cultural officials, soldiers injured in theaters of operations,heroes' children, families of WW1 heroes and citizens will read the heroes' names.

The special ceremony in Bucharest will take place at 17.45, in Tricolorului Square in front ofthe Palace of the National Military Club and will include a concert of patriotic songsperformed by the Band of the 30th Mihai Viteazul Guard Brigade together with thePatriarchate Choral, a recital of Pan flute player Nicolae Voiculet and an exhibition of objectsfrom the national cultural heritage and photos organized by the National Military Museumand the National Office for Heroes Memory (NOHM).

The Solemn utterance of the names of the heroes who fell during World War 1 will begin at19.15 hrs., preceded by a trumpet sound and a moment of silence. Military and civilianofficials from the Ministry of National Defence, public figures, soldiers injured in theaters ofoperations, children of the latter's comrades who lost their lives in mission, families of the
heroes who died in WW1 along citizens will read the heroes' names from a volume edited byNOHM.

From 17.30 to 23.00 hrs., a screen placed in front of the Palace of the National Military Clubwill show photos and films dedicated to the centenary. The Ministry of National Defenceinvites the citizens to participate in all these activities and commemorate together the heroesof World War 1.

Over 330,000 Romanian soldiers lost their lives during the worldwide conflagration, while76,000 others became invalid. On top of them, there were civil casualties, people killed bydeseases, famine or the occupation troops.

By the Romanian Government Decision No. 821/2015, with the additional alterations andcompletitions, the national Program was sanctioned regarding the events organized to markthe anniversary of WW1 Centenary. At the suggestion of the Prime Minister, the activities areconducted under the High Patronage of the President of Romania.
