Defence Minister Mihnea Motoc at the Festivities Organized on the 25th Anniversary ofUkraine's Independence

At the invitation of his Ukrainian counterpart, General Stepan Poltorak, the Minister ofNational Defence, Mihnea Motoc, participated in the military parade and the festivitiesorganized in Kiev, on the 25th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, on August 23 and 24.

According to the visit agenda, minister Motoc had official talks with General Poltorak, whenhe reiterated the solidarity of the officials in Bucharest with Ukraine and the political support
regarding the territorial sovereignty, independence and integrity in the current difficultsecurity context.

The two dignitaries evaluated specific ways of improving bilateral military cooperationbetween the armed forces of the two countries within regional initiatives and in NATO andEU context. The two officials agreed on the importance of developing the cooperationactivities through common training exercises but also Ukrainian personnel, with a view toachieving interoperability.

The Romanian minister encouraged Ukrainian authorities to intensify practical cooperationwith both NATO and the EU, in order to make the most of the partnership opportunitiesoffered by the two organizations for the modernization of the military system, especially byimplementing the Comprehensive Assistance Package (CAP) developed by the Alliance andadopted at Warsaw Summit for Ukraine.

In order to establish specific cooperation fields between the two armed forces, Mihnea Motocaccepted, in principle, the invitation of his counterpart to make a visit to Kiev, next month.
