Romanian Defence Minister's Meeting with his French Counterpart

On Tuesday, August 30th, Minister Mihnea Motoc met with Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French Defence Minister, at the MoND headquarters, as part of the visit the official made to Romania.


The meeting was an excellent opportunity to discuss practical ways to strengthen the relations between the two countries on common interest topics listed on the European and Allied agenda as well as on the bilateral strategic dialogue in the field of defence, including military education and industry.


The two officials exchanged opinions with regard to the decisions adopted at the NATO Summit in Warsaw and the short-term priorities with a view of implementing these decisions at the established timelines.


The complex and unpredictable security environment from the Black Sea area was also tackled, the utmost importance of the measures-adopted at the highest level-on the consolidation of the deterrence and defence posture from the Eastern flank of the Alliance, including in this region, being reiterated. While approaching the topics related to the allied forward presence on the Southern part of the Eastern flank, minister Le Drian offered his support in the implementation of the decisions adopted in the capital city of Poland.


Also, the main topics listed on the European security and defence agenda such as the new EU's global strategy, the capacity building in support of the security and development and the EU's response to all terrorist threats were approached.


Following the appeal to the European solidarity made by France according to Article 42.7 from the European Union Treaty, minister Le Drian thanked the Romanian defence minister for the prompt answer and Romania's commitment to participate in the military training missions under the aegis of UN and EU, in the sub-Saharan Africa and Sahel region.
