Defence Minister's Participation in the United Nations Peacekeeping Defence Ministerial

The Minister of National Defence, Mihnea Motoc, will participate in the Meeting of UN Defence Ministers on Peacekeeping Operations, in London, on Thursday, August 8, at the invitation of the British Secretary of Defence, Michael Fallon, who hosts the event jointly, with representatives of the UN and the countries, who co-organized the Summit in New York, in September 2015.

The agenda of the meeting includes current issues of UN peacekeeping operations as well as the stage of implementing the pledges made by the countries that participated in the Leaders' Summit on Peacekeeping of September 28, 2015; implementing the UN resolutions on Women, Peace and Security; necessary steps to make UN missions and operations efficient before and after deployment; the current status of the measures to reduce problems deriving from sexual abuse and exploitation during missions and operations; rapid deployment of peacekeeping capabilities.

The event will be attended by defence ministers of member states that pledged additional contributions to the UN peacekeeping effort at the Summit of September 2015, also from the member states who announced such contributions at a later time. Romania pledged to contribute with observers, airlift and combat support capabilities.

From among the allied states the participation of the defence minsters from Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Croatia, France, Greece, Ireland, Norway, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, the USA and Turkey.
