Defence Minister's Participation in the United Nations Peacekeeping Defence Ministerial

The Minister of National Defence, Mihnea Motoc, participated in the Meeting of UN Defence Ministers on Peacekeeping Operations, in London, on Thursday, August 8. The event was hosted jointly by British Secretary of Defence, Michael Fallon and representatives of the UN countries that co-organized the Summit in New York, in September 2015.

The event was attended by 30 defence ministers from countries across the world, including four permanent members of the UN Security Council. The meeting assessed the stage of implementing the pledges made by the countries that participated in the Leaders' Summit on Peacekeeping of September 28, 2015, the necessary steps to make UN missions and operations efficient and the implementation of the UN resolutions on Women, Peace and Security.

They also discussed ways of improving training, force generation and training before mission, doctrines, equipment, the command and performance in accomplishing missions as well as lessons learned and achieving the rapid reaction capacity.

During his interventions, minister Motoc restated Romania's pledge made at the United Nations Leaders' Summit of September 2015. Also, it was stressed Romania's pledge to contribute to the uniform and permanent implementation of equal opportunity in all UN missions and operations, in agreement with national and international legislation.

The participation at the meeting offered opportunities to establish bilateral contacts with counterparts form several allied countries, when topics from the meeting agenda were approached as well as others from bilateral cooperation and in allied context.
