Meeting of Minister Mihnea Motoc with the Ambassador of Canada to Bucharest

The armed forces of Romania and Canada had an excellent cooperation during the exercises conducted jointly over the last years, the Minister of National Defence, Mihnea Motoc, declared upon receiving the new Ambassador of Canada to Bucharest, H.E. Kevin Hamilton, on Thursday, September 22.

Minister Motoc appreciated the importance and high level of the bilateral relations and noted the current, highly complex security environment in the south-eastern region of the Alliance. He also spoke highly of Canada's consistent involvement in implementing the allied assurance and reassurance measures on the national territory and at the Black Sea.

The two officials spoke of the good cooperation in allied format and emphasized the need to focus on NATO's deterrence and defence posture, especially on the elements of the tailored forward presence in the region. In the same context, they discussed ways of supporting politically and practically Romanian initiatives in the field, mainly related to the multinational brigade, also the developments in the air and maritime field.

Ambasador Hamilton talked of the priority he will give to bilateral cooperation on defence and security during his mandate and reiterated Canada's comitment to implement efficiently and timely the decisions of NATO Summit in Warsaw.
