The State Secretary for Armaments, Gabriel-Beniamin Les, participated, on behalf of the defence ministry, in the 18th European Interparliamentary Space Conference (EISC) conducted over October 3 to 4 at the Palace of the Parliament.

The event organized by the Chamber of Deputies, that holds this year's presidency of EISC, according to the rotation principle, with Valerian Vreme as president of the Subcommittee for Space, has an agenda that includes four theme sessions on its first day. The first two are dedicated to the future European space strategy and the European perspectives on space and security. The other two sessions will focus on the cooperation between the Parliament and the representatives of European and national head agencies and of the space industry. The second day of the conference is dedicated to discussions among parliamentary members about the future endeavours of the organization, reviewing the activity of the national structures dedicated to space activities and discussing the theme and program of the future meeting under Estonian presidency of EISC.

The permanent approach of a topic so complex and limitless, in philosophical terms as well, as space in itself is, with means that have evolved from rudimentary to advanced, show a natural concern that we will guide and channel in a scientific way, towards usefulness and applicability. Equally, our mutual concerns take into account space security and many-sided aspects deriving from here, the State Secretary for Armaments, Gabriel-Beniamin Les declared at the opening of the plenary session.

The event brings together the special guests of the Romanian presidency, namely parliamentary members from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, representatives from EISC members of Belgium, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Norway and Poland and high representatives of the European Space Agency, the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), the European Institute of Space Policies and NATO Center of Excellence for Cybernetic Defence and Cooperation.
