The Minister of National Defence, Mihnea Motoc, received the General Manager of NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA), Koen Gijsbers, Thursday, October 21.

The two officials discussed the stage of implementing the current Romanian military projects with the support of NCIA, and the development perspectives in the responsibility area of the Agency. They noted the very good results obtained in implementing the Communications and Information System (CIS) at NATO Force Integration Unit (NFIU), and the CIS static component at the Multinational Division South-East (MND SE), a premiere in the Alliance.

They also reviewed the projects for developing command and control capacities for the Romanian Armed Forces under the coordination of the Agency, from common funds, through NATO Security Investment Program /NSIP.

At the same time, they agreed on intensifying cooperation through concrete activities for the implementation of the initiatives aiming at accomplishing NATO's tailored forward presence on our territory and in the Black Sea region, initiated and coordinated by Romania.

Minister Mihnea Motoc saluted the efforts of NCIA leadership to develop direct cooperation relations between the Agency and the Romanian companies in the industry, partner companies of the MoD for the implementation of ongoing projects or initiating future ones.

On the same day, the NCIA delegation had a working meeting with representatives of the companies in the national defence industry, mainly with a view to involving Romanian companies in the projects of the Agency.

NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) is the specialized structure of the Alliance that is independent juridically, administratively and financially and was created to meet the collective requirements of NATO members to achieve capabilities and ensure consultation, command and control of communications, information and cyber defence, while facilitating the integration of information, surveillance, recconnaisance and management of targets, as well as the associated information exchange.

NCIA is budgeted from several sources, including NATO common funds, as well as direct, annual financial contributions from member states. The Agency is going through a transition period, on its way towards a Customer Funding Regime, while its major clients are still NATO members, commands and structural entities.
At present, in Romania, NCIA is involved in implementing several NATO projects, financed from common funds, through NSIP Program, on our territory and in the Black Sea region
