While at the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence in Brussels, the Minister of National Defence, Mihnea Motoc, met with his British counterpart, Secretary of Defence, Michael Fallon, on Wednesday, October 26.

The meeting is part of the many bilateral contacts dedicated to strengthening defence cooperation, within the Strategic Partnership between Great Britain and Romania.

The two officials reiterated the common approaches concerning the allied measures to adapt to the new security challenges, by implementing the decisions made at NATO Summit in Warsaw. They reaffirmed the commitment to achieve NATO forward presence on the Eastern flank of the Alliance as central element of strengthening the allied deterrence and defence posture.

Minister Mihnea Motoc emphasized the importance of British endorsement, at allied level, in implementing Romanian initiatives that were validated in Warsaw, concerning the tailored Forward Presence in our country and in the Black Sea region.

The British Defence Secretary pointed out the intensified common training by deploying British forces and capabilities, land, air and maritime, in Romania and the Black Sea.

As part of the efforts to enhance the allied deterrence posture along the Southern segment of the Eastern flank British authorities decided to deploy in Romania Typhoon fighters of the Royal Air Force, during 2017, with a view to carrying out air police missions and participating in common training activities with the Romanian Air Force.

As far as the tailored presence is concerned, they discussed possibilities to participate with elements of NATO/VJTF, coordinated by Great Britain in 2017, in common exercises with the Multinational brigade in Craiova, Romania.
