Defence Minister's Meeting with His Norwegian Counterpart

While at the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence in Brussels, the Minister of National Defence, Mihnea Motoc, met with his Norwegian counterpart, Ine Marie Eriksen Søreide.

The two officials discussed the need to continue and intensify bilateral cooperation on defence, with emphasis on coordinating positions at allied level, with a view to implementing the decisions made at NATO Summit in Warsaw, especially those related to NATO forward presence on the Eastern flank.

The Romanian defence minister showed his appreciation for Norway's solidarity and commitment to strengthening NATO's deterrence capacity and expressed his hope for increasing the level of cooperation in order to meet the common defence interests through political and defence level meetings.

The Norwegian official emphasized that the authorities in Oslo give a special attention to participating in the efforts to strengthen the deterrence and defence posture, especially in the maritime field, in order to implement a unitary allied strategic vision.

The two officials agreed to strengthen cooperation in intelligence exchange that should, in the current security environment, facilitate the appropriate knowledge of the situation and the efficient response of the Alliance to the new strategic challenges.
