The Day of the Romanian Mountain Troops

The troops of the 2nd ,,Sarmizegetusa Mountain Brigade from Brasov, the 61st ,,General Virgil Badulescu Mountain Brigade from Miercurea-Ciuc, the Training Base ,,Bucegi from Predeal and the 26th ,,Avram Iancu Mountain Battalion from Brad will celebrate the Day of the Romanian Montain troops, in Brasov, on Thursday, November 3.

In Sfatului Square, from 11.00 hrs., a military and religious ceremony will be organized, while in Titulescu Park there will be a display of the main equipment the Mountain Troops use.

From 18.30, the troops will retreat with torches on the route Sfatului Square - Muresenilor St. 2nd Mountain Brigade Command HQ.

On November 3, 2016, 100 years are celebrated since the establishment of the first Mountain troops unit of the Romanian Armed Forces, in Bucharest, by Order 294 of the High Headquarters, through the transformation of the Ski School into the Corps of Mountain Troops.

The Mountain Troops are meant to act in extreme weather and terrain conditions. They carry out missions both at home and in countries such as Angola, Somalia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iraq and Afghanistan.
