State Secretary for Defence Policy and Planning Meets the Ambassador of Spain to Romania

The State Secretary for Defence Policy and Planning, Mircea Dusa, had a meeting with the Ambassador of Spain in Romania, H.E. Ramiro Fernandez Bachiller, at the defence ministry, on Tuesday, February 14.

The meeting agenda focused on defence cooperation, at bilateral level and within the Alliance and the EU, as well as the implementation of decisions taken at NATO Summit in Warsaw on the Common Defence and Security Policy.

State Secretary Dusa expressed the satisfaction for the support Spain gave to the allied reassurance and tailored measures in a highly complex and dynamic security context, with direct implications on the eastern and southern flanks of NATO and the EU. Mircea Dusa saluted the Spanish contribution to manning the command and control structures in Romania - NFIU, MND-SE and, as of this year, the Multinational Brigade.

The Ambassador of Spain emphasized the major role played by Romania on the eastern flank of NATO and the importance given by his country to the development of bilateral cooperation and the participation in exercises conducted in our country and at the Black Sea.

State Secretary Dusa pointed out that our country endorses the continued efforts to manage the challenges in the southern area of the Alliance, through the implementation of deterrence and defence measures against the Non-state Actors in the region.

As for the bilateral component, the two officials stressed that resuming the meetings of the Mixed Military Commission should be a good opportunity to revive the cooperation between the two contries and to identify new fields of cooperation, technical and military included. In this context, State Secretary Dusa mentioned the importance of signing the Memorandum of Understanding on defence cooperation between the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Defence of Spain, during a future meeting at ministerial level.
