The Minister of National Defence at the Meeting of EU Foreign Affairs Council

The Minister of National Defence, Gabriel Les, participated in the Meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in the format of EU defence and foreign affairs ministers, in Brussels, on March 6.

The meeting was conducted in view of preparing the progress report and the implementation of its conclusions of November last year and agree to start the implementation of the EU Global Strategy on defence and security and the need to enhance CDSP. This was an important stage in finalizing an intermediate report that would be presented by the EU HR, Federica Mogherini, at the meeting of the EU heads of state and government to take place on March 9 and 10.

The EU defence and foreign affairs ministers will also discuss priority issues on the European agenda on defence and security, with focus on permanent structured cooperation, the coordinated review of defence, the permanent capability of operational and command planning, the military planning and conduct capability for the command of non-executive military missions.

At the invitation of EU HR, the EU defence ministers discussed over a working lunch, EU commitment within CDSP in the extended EU region. The session offered the opportunity to address complex security issues of the EU, while discussing also the EU commitments in Lybia, Sahel region and the Horn of Africa.

With the security concerns of our country in mind, it can be said the meeting was a good opportunity to reaffirm the strong commitments of our country in terms of security and defence.
