Meeting of the U.S.- Romania Joint Committee in Bucharest

State Secretary for Defence Policy and Planning, Mircea Dusa, had a meeting with Brigadier General Dawne Deskins, the Deputy Director of Partnering and Missile Defense, United States European Command, at the defence ministry, on Thursday, March 23.

The talks focused mainly on the stage of the U.S. construction projects in the agreed facilities and zones, also on the joint exercises for bilateral and multinational training conducted in Romania this year by the Romanian and American military.
The meeting of the two officials took place in the context of the Meeting of the U.S.- Romania Joint Committee for the implementation of the Agreement between the Unite States of America and Romania on the Deployment of U.S. troops (DCA) and the United States ballistic Missile Defense System in Romania (BMDA), that took place in Bucharest today.

At the beginning of the meeting, Major General Paul Hurmuz, deputy chief of the Department for Defence Policy and Planning stressed the importance of the Romanian-American Strategic Partnership and pointed out some of the activities that took place last year the ceremony of the operational certification of Aegis Ashore Defense System at Deveselu, taking over the control and handing over the command of Deveselu facility to NATO and the initial operational capacity of the facility in Romania.
The meetings of the U.S.- Romania Joint Committee enhance the defence cooperation between the two countries and demonstrate the common effort for the full implementation of the DCA and BMDA agreements.

This year marks the 20 years since the establishment of the Romanian-American Strategic Partnership and 10 years since the first meeting of the U.S.- Romania Joint Committee.
