Working Visit in Romania by Representatives of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons

Major General Paul Hurmuz, deputy chief of the Department for Defence Policy and Planning met with Marcelo Kos, Director of the Inspectorate Division of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), at the defence ministry, on Monday, March 27.

The talks focused on the importance of the political and military dialogue between the Romanian Ministry of National Defence and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) for starting practical military projects by the Romanian specialized military structures of the defence ministry. The two officials consider that developing cooperation relations between the defence ministry and OPCW would have a positive impact on regional cooperation and Romania's image within NATO and the EU.

The OPCW representative appreciated Romania's efforts for the prohibition of chemical weapons and pointed out that the Romanian defence ministry has specialized facilities at high standards, that could be the base of specific projects that started this year.

The visit of the OPCW delegation ends on March 29, its agenda including specialized talks at the CBRN Center in Bucharest and visits at the training range in Valea Poienii, Campulung.
