Defence Minister's Meeting with EDA Chief Executive

As part of the informal meeting of the European Union (EU) defence ministers, minister Gabriel Les had a bilateral meeting with the EDA Chief Executive, Jorge Domecq, on Wednesday evening.

The Romanian defence minister commended the efforts of the Agency to improve the EU mechanisms for the development of military capabilities, while ensuring that it is complementary with the similar process conducted at NATO level. Emphasizing the key-role of EDA in the institutional architecture of the Union related to the development of robust military capabilities, minister Les reiterated Romania's commitment to contribute actively to the consolidation of the EU Security and Defence Policy.

Also, the defence minister mentioned that the government makes a priority of the country's involvement in the process of consolidating the security and defence dimension of the EU, also by facilitating the participation of the national defence industry in the European programs.

Chief Executive Domecq thanked Romania for its involvement in the programs and initiatives of the Agency and emphasized the important role of EDA in the implementation processes of the EU Global Strategy and the Common Declaration EU-NATO.
