Romanian Defence Minister's Meeting with the Defence Minister of Israel

The Romanian Minister of National Defence, Gabriel Les, had a meeting with the Israeli Minister of Defence, Avigdor Lieberman, on Thursday, May 4. The meeting took place in the attendance of the Romanian Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu as part of the visit of a Romanian Government delegation to Israel.

The talks included topics such as intensifying military bilateral cooperation and the developments of the security situation in the Black Sea region and the Middle East.

The Romanian side stressed the privileged character of the bilateral relations based on converging strategic interests and shared values and held a briefing on the main developments of the regional environment and the strategic importance of the Black Sea region in the current security context.

The Romanian defence minister talked about the Government's priorities on defence, with emphasis on military modernization as a result of the 2 percent of the GDP allotted to defence and the cooperation opportunities deriving from here.

The Israeli defence minister, Avigdor Lieberman, highlighted the special political relations of the two countries and the need to intensify bilateral military cooperation. As a conclusion, the officials agreed on continuing the strategic dialogue in order to take further common projects, the technical and military field included.
