The 11th Conference of the Balkan Chiefs of Defence

General Nicolae Ciuca, the chief of General Staff, will participate together with his counterparts from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, FYROM, Greece, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey in the 11th Conference of Chiefs of Defence in the Balkans taking place in Athens, Greece, on Wednesday, May 10.

The annual conference aims at dynamizing and harmonizing regional military cooperation by consolidating security and ensuring a climate of stability in the Balkan region. It also aims at identifying an integrated mechanism for crisis management and increase of regional military cooperation with a view to participating together in exercises and missions, as a complementary instrument to other regional initiatives.

This year's edition is attended by a special guest, the OSCE Secretary General, Ambassador Lamberto Zanner, who will hold a speech on Geopolitical Stability in South East Europe Energy Roads, a topic of interest in the region. Among the guesta there are also NATO and EU chaimen of military committees and chiefs of defence from Croatia and Slovenia.

Within the conference program, the chief of General Staff will have a bilateral meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart to discuss topics related to military cooperation within NATO, in terms of the resolutions of Warsaw Summit.
