NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy Visits Romania

Secretary of State for Defence Policy and Planning, Mircea Dusa, met with Ambassador Tacan Ildem, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy on Monday, May 15. The meeting took place during the working visit Ambassador Tacan Ildem makes in Romania these days.

The official talks included topics such as the cooperation between the Romanian defence ministry and NATO Public Diplomacy Division with a view to the development of NATO's projects of strategic communication.

Mircea Dusa said he considered the cooperation a success, with certain advantages at both national and allied level. The Romanian official stressed that after 2016, NATO security agenda was one of the top topics covered by the Romanian media. This is a first since our country joined NATO and the situation did not change in 2017, which proves the high interest of the Romanian people for the activity of the Alliance in the current security environment.

Secretary of State Dusa pointed out the importance the Ministry of National Defence lays on this subject and the fact that all structures with responsibilities in the field of strategic communication have very good results.

The two officials reiterated the importance of strategic communication in the present security environment. Therefore, they agreed on the need to inform the public opinion as clearly as possible of the measures NATO and the Romanian Armed Forces take in order to adapt to the new security challenges, mainly on the Eastern flank.
