The Chief of General Staff Participates in the Meetings of the EU and NATO Military Committees at the level of Chiefs of Defence

General Nicolae Ciuca, the chief of General Staff, participates in the meetings of the EU and NATO Military Committees at the level of Chiefs of Defence, taking place in Brussels, over May 16 to 17.

The topics that will be approached during the meeting of the EU Military Committee include the military implications of implementing the EU Global Strategy, the cooperation with NATO, the training and counselling operations and missions under the aegis of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) and the strategic priorities of the Committee.

The meeting agenda of NATO Military Commitee includes military topics of the day the challenges of the security environment on NATO's southern flank, consolidating capacities and reviewing the path to follow in Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan, in 2018 and beyond. The activity will end with the functional assessment of NATO's command structure and a discussion on the efficient use of the existing capacities and resources, while taking into account all the current missions of the Alliance.

The EU Military Committee is the highest military body established within the EU Council, in charge of all EU military actions, especially planning and carrying out military missions and operations within CSDP and developing military capabilities.

The NATO Military Committee meets at Chiefs of Defence level twice a year, in order to discuss NATO present and future missions and operations, with a view to making the recommendations needed to consolidate the allied deterrence and defence posture, as well as for the long-term adaptation of the Alliance.
