Defence Minister's Meeting with the Delegations of the Defence Committees of the Polish Sejm and the Deputy Chamber of the Romanian Parliament

The Minister of National Defence, Gabriel Les, received the visit of the representatives of the Defence Committee of the Polish Sejm headed by Mr. Michael Jach, with the participation of a delegation of the Defence Committee of the Romanian Deputy Chamber, headed by its chairman, Mr. Dorel Caprar.

The parliamentary delegation makes a visit in Romania at the invitation of the Committee for Defence, Public Order and National Securityof the Deputy Chamber. According to the program they visited structures in the Ministry of National Defence, the Navy Staff and the Navy Academy Mircea cel Batran in Constanta.

Bilateral defence cooperation, the technical and military field included, in the context of the Strategic Partnership of the two countries, as well as the cooperation in allied context with a view to implementing the decisions made at Warsaw Summit and enhancing the deterrence and defence posture of NATO in the region were topics on the talks agenda of the two delegations.

The Romanian defence minister emphasized the importance of military bilateral cooperation in terms of cooperation within NATO, cooperation within EU and technical and military cooperation for the consolidation of defence capabilities. The Romanian official highlighted the beneficial role of the mutual contributions with military units and staff personnel for rendering operational the Multinational Brigade in Craiova, as well as the Battle Group in Poland under US cordination, with a view to achieving NATO forward presence along the entire eastern flank of the Alliance.

Regarding the ample modernization of the military capabilities of the Romanian and Polish Armed Forces that involve procuring or upgrading important weapon systems and equipment, the two delegations discussed cooperation opportunities in this respect, including the potential involvement of the defence industries of the two countries.

With the occasion of the activities at the defence ministry, a ceremony was organized when H.E. Marcin Wilcezek, the Ambassador of Poland to Bucharest, handed over the Polish Order Afghanistan Star to Major Marius Plesca. The decision belongs to the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Andrzej Duda, for the special contribution of the Romanian officer to the cooperation between the Romanian and Polish soldiers in Afghanistan.
