Military ceremonies in Honour of WW1 Heroes

As part of the World War 1 Centenary (1916-1919) and of 2017 being declared The Year Marasti, Marasesti, Oituz - 100', the Ministry of National Defence organizes in Bucharest, on Thursday, May 25, commemoration ceremonies dedicated to the heroes who fell in battle or as prisoners during the conflagration.

Military and religious activities and the solemn uttering of the names of the Romanian heroes who lost their lives during WW1 will take place all over the country.

There will be wreath-laying ceremonies conducted with the support of the diplomatic representations in Romania, at the cemeteries and commemoration monuments honoring the Romanian soldiers who died in Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, The Netherlands, Russian Federation, Republic of Moldova, Bulgaria, France and Hungary.

An ample military ceremony for The solemn uttering of the names of the Romanian heroes who lost their lives during WW1 will take place at the Memorial of the National Heroes and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, at 17.45 hrs. Military, cultural, political and social officials, war veterans, soldiers wounded in theaters of operations, children of the heroes who fell in theaters of operations, families of the heroes who fell during WW1, citizens and students will read, taking turns, lists of the heroes' names.

The ceremony at the Memorial of the National Heroes and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is organized by the defence ministry in ooperation with Bucharest Mayor's Office and the Cultural Center of Bucharest Municipality ARCUB.

The Ministry of National Defence invites citizens to watch all the commemoration events organized in honor of the WW1 heroes.

Over 330,000 Romanian soldiers lost their lives during the worldwide conflagration, while 76,000 others became invalid. Beside, there were civil casualties, people killed by deseases, famine or the occupation troops.
